delfort receives validation of its’ climate targets from the Science Based Targets initiative

delfort has reached a significant milestone in advancing its longstanding commitment to climate responsibility: The internationally recognized Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially validated the company’s near-term, long-term and Net Zero climate targets. This confirmation means that delfort’s emissions reduction goals are aligned with the latest climate science aimed at limiting global warming to 1.5°C. The validation underscores our commitment to drive sustainable transformation of our own operations and value chain.

Our climate targets – ambitious and science-based

With the SBTi validation, we’re driving bold and measurable climate action forward.

  • For the Near Term target, we commit to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 54.6% by 2033 from a 2023 base year, and to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, processing of sold products and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 32.5% within the same timeframe.

  • For the Long Term target, we commit to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 90% until 2050 from a 2023 base year and to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services, capital goods, fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, employee commuting, upstream leased assets, downstream transportation and distribution, processing of sold products and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 90% within the same timeframe.

  • We are further committed to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050. This includes a 90% reduction across all three scopes compared to our base year 2023, with remaining residual emissions fully neutralized.

For years, we’ve taken concrete steps to reduce emissions across our operations. The SBTi validation confirms the path we’ve chosen — one grounded in science and action. It sends a clear signal: delfort is a reliable partner helping customers lower their Scope 3 footprint while driving sustainable change in the specialty paper industry.

How we’re turning goals into action

To reach our ambitious climate goals, delfort has already taken significant actions and also developed a clear decarbonization roadmap until 2050 that includes:

  • Improving efficiency through energy projects and process optimization

  • Investing in Best Available Technologies

  • Purchasing renewable and CO₂-free energy

  • Electrifying processes across our operations

  • Generating renewable energy on-site

  • Switching to biogenic fuels and other low-carbon alternatives

  • Cooperating closely with our suppliers and partners to reduce Scope 3 emissions across the value chain

Every initiative is tailored to the specific requirements of our operations, embedding sustainability into every stage of our value chain.

About Science Based Targets initiative:

The the Science Based Targets initiative is a global partnership between CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and WWF. It supports companies in developing science-based climate targets that align with the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement. The SBTi reviews and validates whether planned emissions reductions are consistent with the latest scientific findings.
