there is no 'one-fits-all' solution
Every product tells its own story, and every story deserves packaging that performs exactly as needed. From the first bite to the last, the right barrier helps protect quality, freshness and the consumer experience.
Think of a juicy burger: its wrapper needs to stand up to grease and moisture, keeping hands clean while allowing the food to be enjoyed as intended. Hot meals require a different balance, letting excess steam escape to help maintain texture and prevent sogginess. Dry ingredients such as flour need protection from moisture, while baked goods benefit from packaging that helps retain freshness for longer.
Other products present their own unique challenges. Chocolate often requires strong protection against oxygen and carefully controlled moisture transmission to preserve its taste and texture. Crispy snacks such as chips or wafers rely on barriers that help keep unwanted moisture out, while ingredients like raisins need packaging that helps retain moisture and prevents fats from migrating through the paper structure.
Because no two products are exactly alike, neither are their packaging requirements. We promote using resources efficiently and not over-packaging items. For that reason, we focus on lightweight paper solutions that use less material compared with heavier alternatives, where product requirements allow. Creating very thin barrier papers creates additional challenges when it comes to recyclability. The recyclability of paper packaging is often determined by the ratio of the applied barrier to the base paper. In some countries, legislations allow only 5% of the total packaging to be barrier and inks to be qualified as recyclable.
Our specialists continuously push the boundaries of what is possible, optimizing coating formulations and application technologies to achieve high barrier performance with minimal coating weight. It is a delicate balance of science, engineering and innovation, where even the smallest adjustment can make a meaningful difference.

dream team: specialty base papers and functional high-barrier coatings
We take a holistic approach to developing our recyclable papers. Our R&D partner DELSCI has a team of 20 scientists and engineers and a new 300m2 high-tech laboratory. With state-of-the-art equipment, we are able to perform many tests from the early stages of development. Being able to test barrier levels, such as MVTR, OTR, and Cobb tests, in-house allows us a high level of agility and flexibility.
When developing functional barrier paper packaging, we manage at least three parameters, each of which needs to work together to produce the desired barrier functions.
