delfort commits to Science Based Target initiative Net-Zero Standard

delfort has responded to SBTi’s urgent call for corporate climate action by committing to align with 1.5°C and net-zero through the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign.

Hence, delfort is among the first companies in the pulp and paper industry that have committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero. While many companies support the reduction of targets for scope 1 and scope 2, delfort goes one step further and will also include scope 3 emissions.

The Net-Zero Standard covers a company’s entire value chain emissions, including emissions produced by their:

  • own processes (scope 1).
  • purchased electricity and heat (scope 2).
  • and that which is generated by suppliers and transportation (scope 3).

This will require an ambitious decarbonization of 90 - 95% to reach net-zero within the SBTi Net-Zero Standard.

“We are going through the most radical transformation the world has ever seen. For us, ‘business as usual’ is not an option in times of climate change. Therefore, the Science Based Target initiative is another step forward on our Climate Care program towards net zero.”
Martin Zahlbruckner, CEO of delfort

As a next step, we will develop and submit our net-zero near and long-term targets to the SBTi for approval to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050 according to the SBTi.

We join like-minded businesses that are working to reduce their emissions in line with climate science through science-based targets. Find out more

About SBTi

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies and financial institutions across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050. Science-based targets provide companies with a clearly defined pathway by specifying how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

The initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments.
